Why the balance check matters

Copying a PDF table into Excel by hand or with a generic PDF tool loses rows at page breaks, splits descriptions over two lines and flips signs. A spreadsheet that is one row short looks exactly like a correct one. Here the opening balance plus all amounts must equal the closing balance. If it does not, you see the difference and the rows where the running balance breaks, before the file reaches your books.

What the Excel file contains

One sheet with the transactions as real dates and numbers, so you can sort, filter and sum straight away, and a second sheet with the balance check: opening balance, sum of transactions, expected and printed closing balance.

Which statements work

PDFs downloaded from online banking have a text layer and are read directly. Scanned or photographed statements are read with OCR and go through the same balance check. German, Austrian, British and US number and date formats are recognised, including Soll/Haben columns, CR/DR markers and amounts in brackets.

Prices without VAT: small business under § 6 (1) 27 UStG, no VAT is charged. Monthly, cancel any month. A page is one PDF page; conversions that find no transactions are not counted.

Questions

Is my statement stored?
No. The PDF is processed in memory and discarded when the conversion finishes. Only the number of pages is recorded, for the plan limit.
What if the balances do not match?
The rows where the running balance breaks are marked in red, so you can correct them or send us the layout. Write to support@relaystudio.org.
Can I convert several months?
Yes, one PDF at a time. Each statement gets its own check.
